Grameenphone has installed GP WiFi service in selected locations of various universities in Dhaka and Chittagong to ensure round the clock internet access for students.
During the pilot phase, students of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), American International University Bangladesh (AIUB), Stamford University, United International University (UIU), and BGC Trust University, Chittagong will have access to the service. Initially, Grameenphone will provide an average maximum speed of 1 Mbps to users. Only Grameenphone users will have access to the exclusive service.
The service is part of Grameenphone’s ‘Internet for All’ campaign. In the rapidly globalizing world, constant access to information is an integral part of success and growth, and students in particular are in need of it. Recognizing the need, Grameenphone has taken the step to bring all students under the light of the global highway of information. The leading telecom operator also plans to gradually further improve and expand the service in future.
Grameenphone has been undertaking various initiatives to bring the entire country under the umbrella of the internet through its ‘Internet for All’ campaign. The company has recently announced aim to ensure 3G coverage in all parts of Bangladesh within June of this year. Aamra networks, one of the leading ISPs of Bangladesh is providing technical support to Grameenphone in this WiFi initiative.
