Instant Messaging

To Install IM:

  • Set mobile browser APN to GP WAP
  • Then go to http://wap.gpworld.com/
  • Click On the Instant Messenger Icon under special category
  • Click download to install IM in your mobile phone.

When you have finished installation of IM on your mobile phone, you will see IM icon on your phone Menu.

IM Make sure you access point is gp-internet . For java phone there must be at least a 100 KB of free space in your phone memory and for Symbian phone, there must be 400KB of free space.

Registration of IM:

From your phone menu, go to Applications->Collection and press on IM icon

  1. Select your access point gpinternet and press on Connect.
  2. After connection is successful, press Next and type in your mobile number and then in the following screen your password.
  3. After successful login you will see a subscription window with two options Request for code and Enter code.
  4. Check Request for code and press on Continue, then you will get an SMS with your activation code.
  5. Again go to the subscription window and check the Enter code, type in the activation code from the SMS you received and press Continue.
  6. You will then be subscribed till 31st January 2007.
  7. If subscription is successful, it will prompt you to login to other IM networks.
  8. After successful login, it will prompt you again to invite your friends for joining. Put your friend’s mobile number then press Next and you will see the IM main screen.

Add Contact:

  • To add a contact to your contact list, go to Options > Add Contact.
  • You will see two text boxes – one for User Id and the other is for Nickname. Put User Id and Nickname in the text boxes; the User Id is a mobile number and Nickname is any name of your choice that has not been taken yet. Press Add and a message will appear “Subscription sent”.
  • The number you have added will be sent a subscription request to allow you to add his or her number in your contact list. If he or she allows your request, you will get a notification.
  • After the subscription request is granted you will see the name of the contact in the contact list.

To Send Message

  • Highlight the contact from your IM contact list that you want to send message to or chat with. 
  • Select Chat from the Options > Communication > Chat or press the Navigation key (NAV key). A text box will appear.
  • Start writing your message in the text box. When you are finished, either press the NAV key or go to Options > Send.
  • Your message will be sent to your desired contact.

Navigating conversation tab

  • If you want to chat with multiple contacts at the same time, you may need to move between different conversation-windows.
  • From any conversation window, select Options > Go to, you can then select either Previous Tab or Next Tab.
  • You can use the Navigation key - left or right to move between different conversation tabs as well.

Read Received Message:

  • When you receive a message, you will hear an alarm and will see an icon beside the contact name on your contact list – indicating the person who sent you the message.
  • To read the received message, highlight the contact name and press the Navigation key or go to Options > Read.
  • You can then read the message.

Chat Room Navigation:

Creating chat room

  • To navigate to a chat room go to Options > Chat Room, you will be directed to the chat room window.
  • From that window go to Options > Create Room, a text box will appear to enter the chat room name, it should be noted that chat room name must be at least three characters long. After writing the chat room name, press Ok.
  • You will be given an option whether you want to create a chat room with password protection or not.
  • If you want to create a password-protected chat room, press Yes and type in your password, otherwise press No. Please note that if you create a password-protected chat room and invite your friends to join, your friends should be informed about the password earlier – otherwise they will get a request for the chat room but will not be able to enter.
  • After successful creation of a chat room you will see a message, “Room is now open”.

Invite friends to join chat room

  • To invite your friends to join a chat room, go to Options > Invite Friend, you will see all the online contacts, from these contacts select a contact and press Done.
  • Your friend will get a request to join the chat room; if he or she press Yes then he or she will be able to join the chat room.

Sending message to chat room

  • At the chat room window, press on the Navigation key, a text box will appear and you can put your message in the text box. When you are done with your message, press the Navigation key to send or select Options > Send. Your message will be sent.
  • You can also send emoticons to your chat buddies in the chat room by selecting a particular emoticon from the list. Go to Options > Emoticons and select an emoticon.

Managing chat room

  • In the main chat room window, you have options to delete, create, search and set aliases.
  • To delete a chat room, select the chat room from the existing chat room list then go to Options > Delete Room.
  • If you want to search chat room, go to Options > Search and type chat room name you are looking for.
  • If you want to change your alias in the chat room, go to Options > Set Alias, type your new alias name and press Ok.
  • If you want to create new chat room go to Options > Create Room.
  • To enter the room, select the chat room, go to Options > Enter Room or simply press the Navigation key.

Leaving Chat rooms

  • If you want to Leave the chat room, go to Options > Leave Room, you will see a message that you have left the room.

Logout:

  • To quit from the IM go to Options > Logout.
