Grameenphone Ltd. has been declared the official sponsor of the Bangladesh National Cricket Team (Men's &amp; Women's) for the period 2009-2011.This was announced at a press conference organized by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) at the Media Briefing Area, Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur.Under the sponsorship agreement, Grameenphone will be paying the BCB BDT 90 million as royalty fees for the National Cricket Team. For the first time the sponsorship agreements covered rights to both the National Cricket Men's and National Cricket Women's Teams.In addition to the royalty fee, Grameenphone is committed to paying another BDT 5 million each year for kit and playing attire for the teams. Grameenphone will also provide the team bus during any home series or practice session of Bangladesh National Cricket Team (Men's &amp; Women's).Grameenphone has been the proud sponsor for the National Cricket Team since 2003. The latest sponsorship contract expired on 31 October 2009 but was extended till 15 November 2009 to cover the then on-going Bangladesh-Zimbabwe Tour of Bangladesh. The previous sponsorship amount for the team was BDT 61.5 million for the period 2007-2009.Earlier this week, 10 December 2009, the BCB invited tenders from interested parties for the sponsorship of the National Cricket Team, setting the floor price at BDT 120 million. However, Grameenphone was the sole bidder but at a lower price. Subsequent negotiations between the BCB and Grameenphone led to the successful BDT 90 million bid.Grameenphone has been closely associated with the BCB in the development of cricket in Bangladesh, particularly the partnership with the BCB in setting up the Grameenphone-BCB National Cricket Academy near the National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur, which is the largest single involvement of Grameenphone with development of Cricket.Public Relations Department Grameenphone Ltd.
