Grameenphone holds 21st AGM and EGM

The 21st Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Grameenphone Ltd. was concluded successfully at the International Convention City, Bashundhara today.

Chair of Grameenphone Board, Petter B. Furberg and Grameenphone CEO, Michael Foley were present on the occasion, along with other Board members and senior officials of the Company. The AGM was conducted by the Company Secretary, S.M. Imdadul Haque.

The Chair thanked the shareholders for their trust on the company and briefly talked about growth potential in Bangladesh telecom sector, regulatory uncertainties, GP’s ambition to become a digital service provider etc., while the CEO mainly highlighted the operational & financial performance of the Company and successful 3G & 4G rollout, in their respective speeches.  

Speaking on the occasion the chair said, “We live in a world of unprecedented constant technology disruption, where the scope and reach of digitization is altering every aspect of our lives. During the year, Grameenphone continued on its evolutionary journey towards becoming a digital lifestyle brand. With the introduction of 4G, our customers will experience a new look and feel of the digital world.”

GP has paid 105% Interim Dividend (Cash) during 2017. The Board of Directors also recommended 100% Final Dividend (Cash) making a total dividend of 205% of the paid-up capital (i.e. BDT 20.5 per share) for the year 2017. The shareholders approved the above total dividend for the year 2017. GP will run fast-track on-line dividend distribution in line with its standard practices over the years. 

The other activities of the AGM were adoption of the Directors’ Report and Auditors’ Report together with the Audited Financials 2017, election/re-election of the Directors and appointment of Auditors. 

This was the 9th AGM for the Company since it becomes a listed company in 2009.

Later, the Company also held its 21st Extra-Ordinary General Meeting (EGM) in the same venue. In the EGM, the shareholders approved the amendments to the object clause made in the Memorandum of Association of the Company.
