To All Grameenphone Customers

Jan 18 2015

On Sunday January 18, 2015, at 00.31am Grameenphone and the other mobile operators in Bangladesh received written as well as verbal request from the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) to temporarily restrict access to the messaging services Viber and Tango, citing security reasons. BTRC’s correspondence asked for the services restriction to start immediately and end at 6:00pm on Sunday January 18. Access to Viber was restricted at 8.45am on Sunday morning. Grameenphone believes in open communication and regret any inconvenience caused to our valued customers in this regard.

The BTRC, in a subsequent communication, has asked operators to extended restriction timing for Viber & Tango services to 11:59 pm of 18 Jan. Inconvenience to our valued subscribers is deeply regretted.
