Grameenphone Ltd. received ISO 14001:2004 certification for adopting Environment Management System (EMS).

The Certificate was handed over to Grameenphone CEO Petter B. Furberg by Ramesh Koregave, Director, Certification of Bureau Veritas on December 14, 2016 at GPHouse. Grameenphone adopted EMS in 2010 and now it has been rolled out to each and every process of the company that is relevant to environment.

Speaking on the occasion Grameenphone CEO said, “This certification is a proof that Grameenphone wants to go beyond just being a mobile operator but do its part to be a responsible organization that is committed to the environment it operates in.”

The Environmental Management System of Grameenphone was designed to reduce the company’s CO2 footprint from its operations as well as improve environmental performance through efficient use of resources and reduction of waste.

In December 2015, GP has taken initiatives to certify its EMS as per ISO 14001:2004 standards. After the two stage comprehensive audit, conducted by International Certification Body “Bureau Veritas”, a certification to ISO 14001 was issued; confirming that Grameenphone’s environmental management system (EMS) meets with international industry-specific environmental standards.

This is a big leap towards the company’s goal of becoming an environment-friendly “Green Company.”
