Grameenphone joins in emergency Relief Efforts for Flood Victims
Grameenphone Ltd. has joined in the emergency relief efforts in the flood-affected areas of Dhaka, Rajshahi and Sylhet divisions from today. Distribution of relief materials is being done by a large number of volunteers from Grameenphone in collaboration with the members of the Joint Forces, local government authorities and different CSR partners of Grameenphone.
As part of this drive, relief materials were handed over today to the Bangladesh Army and Dhaka District Administration authorities at the Army camp in Badda. Md. Arif Al Islam, Chief Financial Officer, and Khalid Hasan, Director, Regulatory and Corporate Affairs of Grameenphone, handed over the relief materials to District Commissioner of Dhaka Kamal Uddin and the army battalion commander responsible for the area, Lieutenant Colonel Sarwar.
The relief materials handed over included: 302 sacks of rice; 200 sacks of chira; 800 bottles of Soya Bean oil; 50 sacks of Mosurer Dal (lintels); 50 sacks of salt; 44,000 packets of oral saline; 12,000 water purifying tablets; and 18,000 packets of biscuits.
In Dhaka division, relief materials were also distributed in Keraniganj at Buriganga 2nd Bridge and Aambagicha Government Primary School. In each of these areas, Family packs containing essential items were distributed.
Each Family Pack included 3 kg rice, 1 kg dal, 1 litre Soya-oil, 1 kg Chira, 500 gms of Salt and Gur, 3 packs of biscuits, 3 packs of oral saline, 6 candles sticks and a lighter. Kafil H. S. Muyeed, Director, New Business Division of Grameenphone, Local Upazilla Nirbahi Officers (UNO), Upazilla Health & Family Planning Officers, BAMANEH (NGO), along with other employees of Grameenphone were present on the occasion. In Dhaka division relief will also be distributed in Shibaloy, Harirampur and Singair of Manikganj district while relief support will be continued in Dhaka district at Dohar and Nowabganj in the next couple of days.
Similar relief efforts have been carried out today in Rajshahi division. In Sirajganj District, collaborating with CSR partner TMSS, Local Administration and the Joint Forces, relief materials were distributed in: Sirajganj Government College, Sirajganj Women's College, and Darul Islam Academy. In the next couple of days, relief support will be continued in Sirajganj district at Polytechnic College, Kazipur and Chok Kobdas Para.
In the next couple of days, relief will also be distributed in Gaibandha district, partnering with the Local Administration and Dhaka Ahsania Mission at the following points: Udakhali Hospital, Fulchori Union Parishad Health Complex, Konchipara Wapda Badh, and Pipulia Adorsho Gram. In Kurigram district, collaborating with Dhaka Ahsania Mission and Local Administration, Grameenphone employees will distribute relief in: Raniganj Upazilla Parishad, Fakirhat Highschool and Shoriferhat Pilot School.
In Sylhet division, partnering with Grameenphone distributors, Local Administration and the Joint Forces, Grameenphone employees today distributed relief in Jagannathpur, Sadar Bazar and Raniganj. Relief activities will be extended in Sunamganj, Companiganj, Sylhet city and Baniarchang in Sylhet Division during this week.
Grameenphone will continue its relief efforts in cooperation with Joint Forces, local government authorities and various CSR/development partners around the country during this week.
