GRAMEENPHONE TO LOCALIZE HIGH QUALITY EDUCATIONAL CONTENTS OF KHAN ACADEMY

Jul 09 2015

Grameenphone will help localize high quality educational content from Khan Academy for students of Bangladesh. Under the initiative “Localizing Khan Academy”, Grameenphone is partnering with Agami Education Foundation (Bangladesh) and Agami Inc. (USA), to translate the Khan Academy platform into Bangla and open the Khan Academy Bangla Live Site.

This Grameenphone corporate responsibility initiative was announced at a press conference held at the Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel today.

Commenting on this initiative, Sayed Talat Kamal, Head of External Communications of Grameenphone said, “Grameenphone has been actively trying to connect education to Internet in Bangladesh under its “Internet for All” ambition. We believe that internet is the right tool to take quality education to people. Under this initiative, all students and teachers in Bangladesh will have access to high quality Bangla educational contents from anywhere and anytime.”

Salman Khan, founder of Khan Academy, thanked Grameenphone and Agami for this initiative, through a pre-recorded video message.

Debashis Roy Head of Corporate Responsibility of Grameenphone and Dilruba Chowdhury, Director of Programs, Agami Education Foundation, were present among others on the occasion.

Grameenphone believes that by localizing the contents of Khan Academy into Bangla and organizing the contents according to the local curriculum will help students and teachers access good quality educational material. It will also enrich the number of Bangla educational content available on the Internet.

Based in USA, Khan Academy is a non-profit educational organization created in 2006 by educator Salman Khan to provide "a free, world-class education for anyone, anywhere". The organization produces micro lectures in the form of YouTube videos. In addition to micro lectures, the organization's website features practice exercises and tools for educators. All resources are available for free to anyone around the world.

Agami has been working with Khan Academy in different phases since 2011 in bringing Khan Academy tools to the Bangla-speaking population around the globe, especially teachers and students in Bangladesh. Updates on ongoing localization efforts are shared on www.facebook.com/KABanglaTranslationCommunity.
