Grameenphone signs MoU with Information Commission
Grameenphone Ltd. signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Information Commission today (January 16, 2011) with a view to assisting the commission by extending cooperation to ensure free flow of information in line with the Right to Information Act, 2009.
Nepal Chandra Sarker, Secretary, Information Commission and Mahmud Hossain, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer of Grameenphone, signed the MOU on behalf of their respective organizations.
Ambassador (Retd) Muhammad Zamir, Chief Information Commissioner, Information Commission, HE Ragne Birte Lund, Ambassador of Norway and Oddvar Hesjedal, CEO of Grameenphone were present on the occasion.
Under the MoU, Grameenphone will work together with the Information Commission to disseminate public awareness messages on right to information through SMS Broadcast to GP customers; Special messages as footnotes in the newspaper commercials of GP; Special messages in the form of scrolls along with TV commercials of GP; Special messages within the scroll bar in the news headlines of various TV channel(s), where such scroll bar is sponsored by GP. Moreover, GP will support the Commission for further development of its website, so that it becomes more user friendly and functional.
Both parties expect that free flow of information will help ensure transparent and accountable governance, which will lead to empowerment of the people in Bangladesh.
