Grameenphone stands beside cyclone-affected people
Grameenphone Ltd. today made a contribution of Tk. One crore to the Chief Adviser's Relief Fund to provide relief for the cyclone-affected people.
In addition, Telenor, the majority shareholder of Grameenphone, has donated another Tk. 2.3 crore and the GP employees will contribute their one-day's salary to distribute essential relief materials and medicines among the affected people.
Hono’ble Chief Adviser Fakhruddin Ahmed received the Tk. One crore cheque at his office from Grameenphone CEO Anders Jensen today. GP Chief Financial Officer Arif Al Islam also accompanied the Grameenphone CEO.
Grameenphone today (November 20)) started its relief efforts in the worst cyclone-affected districts of the country i.e. Patuakhali, Barguna and Bagerhat.
Grameenphone has distributed Family Packs and set up mobile Medical Camps in these cyclone-affected areas in collaboration with the Government authorities and NGO partners.
Grameenphone will initially continue its relief efforts till November 23, 2007 but efforts may be extended further if the situation requires. Six mobile medical camps have been set up in Patuakhali and Barguna of Barisal Division and four in the Sundarbans Interior and Mongla areas of Khulna Division. Two more medical camps will be set up in Pirojpur and Jhalokathi of Barisal Division on November 21, 2007.
A minimum of 8,500 family packs will be distributed in Barisal, Khulna and Dhaka Divisions with each family pack consisting of 4 kg rice, 1 kg dal, 1 kg salt, 2 kg wheat/flour, ½ liter oil, 6 candles, 1 tin/carton biscuits, and 1 kg chirra.
Grameenphone employees along with Government Authorities and NGO partners will join in this relief effort. In Khulna Division, Grameenphone will be actively working with the Joint Armed Forces in the relief distribution efforts.
