Grand Finale of DRockstars-2 held
The Grand Finale of DRockstars-2, a talent hunt program to find the best upcoming rock band in the country, was held on September 9, 2007. Power Surge, a thrash metal band from Dhaka, secured the title of the first DRockstars band of the country.
Sponsored by djuice, the youth brand of Grameenphone, six talented rock bands participated in the final leg of the DRockstars-2 competition this year. The Bangladesh Musical Bands Association (BAMBA) was the strategic partner in this DRockstars-2 initiative.
More than 600 aspiring rock bands from all over the country took part in the initial selection rounds held in all the six divisional cities over four months. Bortoman, Dreek, Dour, Eclipse, Power Surge and Radio Active had come out as the top six rock bands. After months of musical adventure in six divisional headquarters, DRockstars, the hunt for a rock band, culminated with the grand finale.
The members of all the top six bands are multi-talented musicians who have proven themselves over the past four months. These young rockers have excelled on the DRockstars platform and provided an electrifying musical experience for music lovers of this country. The top 20 bands, representing various parts of the country, have their own unique style and genre of music; these young rockers displayed exceptional onstage performances to the enjoyment of the respected judges, TV viewers and radio listeners. Collectively, they have significantly contributed to the enrichment of rock music in Bangladesh.
Power Surge, the winning band of DRockstars-2, aspires to make thrash metal popular in Bangladesh. The young musicians of Power Surge have already made quite an impact on the rock music scene of Bangladesh. Characterized by powerful onstage performances, Power Surge confesses that live concerts have remained an important source of motivation for them.
The winning band of the DRockstars-2 has been given a monetary reward worth BDT 5 lakh (Taka five lakh). In addition to the cash prize, Power Surge has also won Sony Ericsson W880i Handsets for all the band members, Certificate of album contract with G series, Certificate of djuice Brand Ambassadorship, Certificate of BAMBA membership, and a new wardrobe from Trendz.
Thousands of SMS or text messages and online voting by people at home and abroad had decided the winner of DRockstars-2. It should be noted that the proceeds from the SMS sent by the viewers will be used for the rehabilitation of the flood victims. The total amount raised from the SMS is over BDT 15 lakh.
The grand finale will be also telecast on 11th September, 2007 at 7:30 pm on Channel I. BAMBA is the strategic partner of this year's DRocktars contest. Channel I and Radio Foorti are the media partners, and Sony Ericsson is the co-partner of this talent hunt competition.
