The “Gala Event” of the Firefox App Challenge, was held on Tuesday 13th January 2015, at GPHouse, from 5pm-8pm, where the winners were announced and concerned government officials of the IT Industry, valued partners and eminent figures were present.

A consolidated amount of $27,500 was given as prize money. Two prizes were given under each category, 1st Prize USD 3,000 and Runner-up USD 1,500. In addition, five prizes of USD 1,000 for illustrating ‘outstanding innovation’ were given. BD Travel being the best App developer of this “Firefox App Challenge” received the ticket to visit the Mozilla Headquarter in USA with the round trip air fare and lodging expenses paid.

Grameenphone has been encouraging development of local content and app as part of its ambition of providing “Internet for All” in Bangladesh. Therefore the company has extended its cooperation to Mozilla to arrange this contest. Grameenphone believes that all stakeholders of ICT industry should work together to make Internet useful to the people of Bangladesh.

Today half a billion people worldwide use Mozilla Firefox to experience the Web on computers, tablets and mobile devices. Firefox OS, a product of Mozilla, is a standard that enhances the scope of innovation and advancement for all when freeing mobile providers, manufacturers, developers and consumers from the limitations and restrictions imposed by proprietary platforms. With Firefox OS and Firefox Marketplace, Mozilla is driving a mobile ecosystem enriched with versatile dimension. In line with this, the “Firefox App Challenge” a competition which was launched on 22nd October 2014, in Bangladesh, in partnership between Mozilla, Telenor Digital, Grameenphone Ltd and MCC Ltd., where any developer or company could participate by submitting a Firefox OS App to the Firefox Marketplace.
