Grameenphone, BRAC University Donate to Liberation War Museum

Jul 5, 2007

Grameenphone and BRAC University today jointly handed over proceeds from the ticket sales of the “Pohela Boishakh Festival” to the Liberation War Museum.

The Festival, organized to mark the Bangla New Year in April by BRAC University, was sponsored by Grameenphone. Students from other private universities participated in the program. The object of the Festival was to create cultural assimilation among the youth and to give them the opportunity to add to the day's festivities, by organizing and participating in programs outside the traditional celebration venues. The Festival was organized at the municipal park opposite the Shooting Club in Gulshan 1. The proceeds from ticket sales at the day-long event were donated to the Liberation War Museum.

Prof. Jamilur Reza Chowdhury, Vice Chancellor, and Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed, the Pro-Vice Chancellor and Chairperson of BRAC University, and Kafil H.S. Muyeed, Director of New Business Division at Grameenphone, were present to hand over the check at the Museum premises in the city. Dr. Sarwar Ali, Trustee and Member Secretary, and Mofidul Huque, Trustee, received the check on behalf of the Liberation War Museum. Other members of the Board of Trustees were also present on the occasion.

Last week, GP also donated 100 rickshaws in Sylhet to the Sylhet Muktijoddha Sangshad, Green Disabled Foundation, and the Sylhet Foundation, which work towards the welfare of the blind and the disabled as well as poor Freedom Fighters and slum dwellers of Sylhet. The rickshaws were donated to serve as alternative income streams for these non-profit organizations.
