Grameenphone Donates Emergency Relief in Chittagong
Grameenphone has extended its support to the ongoing Government relief effort to help the people affected in the recent landslides in the port city of Chittagong.
Director of the New Business Division at Grameenphone Kafil H.S. Muyeed handed over 2500 kg of rice, 1000 kg of daal, and 500 liters of soybean oil to the relief coordination cell situated at the Chittagong Outer Stadium. Head of CSR Department, Shuvashish P. Barua, and Sajjad Alam, Head of Region, Chittagong of Grameenphone, along with other employees of the company were present on the occasion.
The volunteers of “Bondhu Shova” of Prothom Alo provided their support in this effort. At the event, Mr. Muyeed expressed GP's intention to extend further relief assistance, if it is required by the concerned authorities.
Grameenphone considers it as a social responsibility to stand by the affected people during natural calamities. During the last cold wave in January 2007, the company distributed 12,500 blankets and 50 cartons of winter clothes among the poor all across the country. During the October 2006 tidal surge in the coastal districts, GP was among the first to reach with immediate relief support to the coastal districts of Barisal Division helping some 3,000 fishermen families.
