GRAMEENPHONE LAUNCHES TRIAL OF MOBILE CONNECT SERVICE IN BANGLADESH

(DHAKA, May 28, 2015) Grameenphone Ltd has launched a trial of the Mobile Connect service, a universal mobile-based authentication solution, for 1000 selected users of classified website www.ekhanei.com.

Users will be able to securely log-on to www.ekhanei.com from their laptop or desktop by clicking on the Mobile Connect logo and typing their Grameenphone (GP) mobile number. The GSMA Mobile Connect1 solution enables customers to create and manage a universal identity that will securely authenticate them and allow them to safely access a range of mobile and digital services. It uses customers’ mobile phone numbers to log-in to different sites and applications without the need to remember passwords and usernames.

Speaking on the occasion, Allan Bonke, CMO of Grameenphone said, “With our continuous pursuit of ‘Internet for All’, we want to harness the power of the internet to set an example on how easily users can access e-commerce sites and avail their desired products. Although Mobile Connect is in its primary stages, we believe that it has the potential to be an essential option for easier and affordable online transactions.”

Grameenphone is launching this log-in solution with the prominent classified site www.ekhanei.com as a pilot project. Upon completing successful pilot, GP plans to tie up with other leading e-commerce sites, classifieds and apps.

As GP aspires to provide ‘Internet for All’, this solution will enable GP to offer easy access to mobile and digital services such as e-commerce, banking, health and digital entertainment, as well as e-government portals, via mobile phones. “Mobile Connect addresses the familiar problem of having multiple passwords for multiple websites by offering a single, trusted, mobile phone-based authentication solution that gives consumers greater control of their data,” said Marie Austenaa, VP and Head of Personal Data & Mobile Identity Programme, GSMA. “The service is gaining momentum around the world with 17 mobile operators already preparing to launch this year and we welcome the addition of Grameenphone Ltd to this leading group.”
