Grameenphone opens Medical Camp in Sirajganj

Grameenphone opened a Medical Camp for the flood-affected people in Sirajganj yesterday (August 14, 2007). The medical camp is situated near Kazipur Nouka Ghat of Sirajganj town.

More than 2000 people received free treatment and medicines for water-borne diseases and other common post-flood diseases on the first day of the camp. Doctors and employees from Grameenphone are voluntarily working in this camp. Doctors from Japan Bangladesh Friendship Hospital, volunteers from Shandhani and local Rover Scouts are also involved in this initiative.

The Deputy Commissioner and Civil Surgeon's office and members of Joint Forces helped Grameenphone to set up this medical camp.

A floating medical camp will also start operation in the same are from Friday to provide treatment for the marooned flood victims in remote areas of Sirajganj.

Earlier Grameenphone opened a medical camp and a floating medical camp at the flood-affected Badda area of Dhaka. So far some 6000 people have received medical support from these camps in Dhaka.

Grameenphone's Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Department is coordinating the activities of these medical camps.

Grameenphone's Head of Rajshahi Region Emon Kalyan Dutta and Head of HSE Dr. Mohammad Shahnawaz were present during the inauguration of the medical camp in Sirajganj.
