1st phase of Grameenphone emergency Relief Efforts for Flood Victims concludes

Grameenphone Ltd. has been actively engaged in the emergency relief efforts in the flood-affected areas over the last week. Distribution of relief materials including food and other essential items worth over Tk One crore has started in eight districts in Dhaka, Rajshahi and Sylhet Divisions.
A good number of Grameenphone employees have also volunteered to participate in the relief distribution efforts working in close collaboration with members of the Joint Forces, local government authorities and different CSR partners of Grameenphone.
The first phase of the relief distribution which concluded on Thursday with the total distribution of nearly 10,000 family packs, each containing 3 kg rice, 1 kg dal, 1 litre Soya-oil, 1 kg Chira, 500 gms of Salt and Gur, 3 packs of biscuits, 3 packs of oral saline, 6 candles sticks and a lighter.
In Dhaka division alone nearly 3500 family packs were distributed at Keraniganj (Buriganga 2nd Bridge, Aambagicha Government Primary School); Nawabganj (Gangadia Satellite center, Atkaonia Bastipara, Barha Satellite Center, Kunda Satellite Center, Banglabazar Satellite center); Dohar (Aaurongabad Satellite Center, Kulchori Satellite Center, Kutubpur Satellite Center); Munshigong; Harirumpur (Matain Primary School, Lebragonj Ashrayon Prokolpa ward #1, Lebragonj Ashrayon Prokolpa ward #2, Palla 2 no. Government Primary School); Shingair (Jamirta Government Primary School, Bokchor Community Clinic & Kasherchor Government Primary School); Shibalaya (UNO office campus, Tepra Titas Gas office); and Ghior.
Similar relief efforts were carried out in Rajshahi division, covering Gaibandha, Sirajganj and Kurigram districts. In Gaibandha District, a total of 1800 family packs were distributed at Fulchori Union Parishad Health Complex; Konchipara Wapda Badh; and Pipulia Adorsho Gram. In Sirajganj District, Grameenphone in collaboration with CSR partner TMSS, Local Administration and the Joint Forces, distributed a total of 2300 family packs at Sirajganj Government College, Sirajganj Women's College, Raipur, Ranigram Wapda, Mr. Matin's ghat, Darul Islam Academy, Kazipur and Chok Kobdas Para. In Kurigram district, working in collaboration with Dhaka Ahsania Mission and the Local Administration, Grameenphone employees distributed a total of 900 family packs at Ranigonj Upazilla Parishad, Fakirhat Highschool, Shorifer Hat Pilot School over the week.
In addition, a total of 1400 family relief packs were distributed in Sylhet Division. Partnering with Grameenphone distributors, Local Administration, City Corporation and the Joint Forces, relief was distributed at Jagannathpur, Sadar Bazar, Raniganj, at the upazila gate, Modinah Market (Commissioner's office), Sheikh Ghat, Kolapara Commissioner's Office, Nabab Road Commissioner's Office, Sylhet Government Rail Station Primary School, and Mehendi bagh (in front of Shahid Minar Kamalgor). Relief efforts will extend to Sunamganj and Hobiganj next week.
In addition, on the 8th August, Grameenphone handed over a cheque contribution worth Tk. 4.31 crore to the Chief Advisor's Relief Fund. The cheques included Tk Two crore from Grameenphone, Tk Two crore from Telenor, the majority shareholder of Grameenphone, and another Tk 31 lakh as contribution from the Grameenphone employees as part of their one day's salary.
Grameenphone is committed to continue its relief efforts in cooperation with Joint Forces, local government authorities and various CSR/development partners around the country over the next 10 days.
