At Grameenphone, we recognize climate change as a key challenge and take responsibility for reducing our environmental impact as part of our business operations. As one of the largest energy‑using organizations in Bangladesh, we are committed to lowering emissions, improving resource efficiency, and supporting the country’s transition towards a more sustainable future.
Our Climate Targets
We aim to reduce our Scope 1 and Scope 2 CO₂ emissions by 50% by 2030, compared to a 2019 baseline. This target guides how we manage energy, infrastructure, and long‑term investments across our network and facilities.
As part of the Telenor Group, we also support the Group’s effort to reduce emissions across the value chain by working more closely with suppliers and integrating environmental considerations into our sourcing and procurement practices.
How We Are Reducing Emissions
Electricity consumption remains the largest source of our operational emissions. To address this, we are taking a practical and phased approach towards renewable energy:
Improving Environmental Performance
People and Responsibility
We actively encourage employees and partners to adopt environmentally responsible practices. Through awareness‑building initiatives, we promote sustainable behavior, energy consciousness, and shared responsibility for reducing environmental impact.
Governance and Continuous Improvement
Our Environmental Management System, certified in line with ISO 14001 and in place since 2010, provides a structured framework to identify environmental impacts, track performance, and drive continuous improvement across our climate and environmental initiatives.
Our goal is to achieve a 50% reduction in CO₂ emissions from Scope 1 and Scope 2 by 2030.
