At Grameenphone, we are dedicated to navigating the challenges of climate change while driving sustainable practices within Bangladesh's industrial landscape. Our commitment is rooted in ambitious targets aligned with the Paris Agreement Goal and Sustainable Development Goals.

Climate Action Goals

  • Reducing CO₂ Emissions: Our goal is to achieve a 50% reduction in CO₂ emissions from Scope 1 and Scope 2 by 2030, benchmarked against the 2019 baseline.
  • Renewable Energy Integration: We are actively pursuing renewable energy sources to mitigate our environmental impact. This includes procuring renewable electricity through Energy Attribute Certificates (EACs) purchase, onsite small-scale solar power solutions, and Corporate Power Purchase Agreements (CPPAs) with large renewable power plants.

Environmental Impact Reduction

  • Energy Efficiency Initiatives: We are dedicated to maximizing energy efficiency throughout our operations by implementing a range of measures. These include converting Generator+Solar sites into Commercial Power/Grid Electricity+Solar Hybrid sites, upgrading to Li-ion batteries, and adopting energy-efficient practices. By optimizing energy usage across our infrastructure, we not only reduce carbon emissions but also promote sustainability and resource conservation.
  • Water Conservation: Our initiatives focus on reducing water usage and enhancing water availability in communities. We aim to maintain 100% wastewater recycling annually.
  • Waste Management: Through our Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle (3R’s) policy, we are prioritizing efficient waste management and supporting a circular economy. This includes recycling e-waste and lead-acid batteries in accordance with international standards.

Employee Engagement and Societal Advocacy We believe in creating awareness and fostering a culture of environmental responsibility among our employees and stakeholders. Our ongoing programs focus on carbon footprint reduction, employee awareness, adoption of green practices, and societal advocacy.

Continuous Improvement Grameenphone's Environmental Management System (EMS), established in 2010 in accordance with ISO 14001, provides the framework for setting and reviewing our environmental objectives and targets. We are committed to continuous improvement and innovation in our climate and environmental initiatives.
