GRAMEENPHONE SUPPORTS ‘PROJECT EVERYONE’ IN BANGLADESH

Oct 01 2015

The leading telecom operator is taking various steps to spread the message about the UN Sustainable Development Goals, also known as the Global Goals.

Grameenphone will work to make ‘Project Everyone’ a success in Bangladesh by supporting the United Nations in spreading the word on the 17 Global Sustainable Development Goals, with an ambition of making the pertinent goals for Bangladesh understood and meaningful for the people. The operator, with its own vision of empowering societies, its ‘Internet for All’ ambition, and its sustainability initiatives, will link both the organizations’ campaigns to accelerate the making of empowered and sustainable societies in the country.

Outlining the steps taken to promote the goals, Grameenphone Head of Corporate Responsibility Debashis Roy said that “we are building this awareness campaign as part of Telenor’s commitment to support the UN in all countries it has operations.” The UN has sought the services of mobile operations across the globe in an attempt to reach all 7 billion of the global population.

Grameenphone is already undertaking various endeavors to make the project a success, through initiatives like sending SMS to its customers, social media campaigns through Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn, Intranet article, desktop wallpapers, profiling at GP House, Customer Service Center at Nitol Niloy Tower, and all regional offices, and through press releases and advertisements in the media.

The United Nations has launched the UN Sustainable Development Goals, also known as the Global Goals, on September 25, 2015. The Global Goals are a series of ambitious targets to end extreme poverty and tackle climate change by 2030. Once achieved, they will ensure the health, safety and future of the planet for everyone - and their best chance of being met is if everyone on the planet is aware of them.

Supported by the United Nations, Project Everyone is an initiative that aims to create a multi-channel global campaign (TV, radio, print, web, social media, mobile etc) over 7 days starting from September 25, 2015 with the aim of making “everyone” on the planet aware of the Global Goals (#TellEveryone). The project’s founding team includes UNICEF, United Nation Foundation, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Wikipedia, Save the Children, Google, Wikipedia, Virgin, Unilever and Standard Chartered Bank.
